Since the 50's, Hedebo Strand Camping has been situated at the edge of the beach a few kilometers from beautiful, idyllic Sæby. Since 1968, Inger, Bendt and his son Eric Christensen have run the place.
After a few years in the United States, where Inger and Bendt worked at the horticulture, they decided to return to the hometown of North Jutland. Here they took over Hedebo Strand Camping in 1968, which at that time had 125 sites. Quietly, the space was expanded with another 500 units, as well as new, modern service buildings were built. Amongst others the reception with party room at the first floor, close to all guests and overlooking the sea.
In 1975, Eric took over as 23-year-old running the campsite after his parents, who still work here in there 80s.
I groove up with the campsite and the many long stayers here. I know them and they my parents and me, as we were in family, Eric Christensen.
Many employees are needed to maintain the 650 sites for caravans, campervans and tents here at Hedebo, where we have more than 90,000 overnights each year. It requires a large and faithful organization.
Since 2005, our two Polish employees, Frannek and Edward have cleaned our four service buildings with toilet, bath and kitchens twice a day. They also crop plants, cut many thousands of square meters of grass, paint and renovate our 16 cabins. And then they and our general man, Bent, help our long stayers and tourists with practical tasks. When busy in high season, Frannek and Edward's wives, Dorotha and Malgorzata, also come and help. While their children spend summer holidays here and especially in our swimming pool and on the beach.
At the reception, which is open 14 hours a day in high season, Eric also works and has Bettina, Solvej and Mads to help him. The three also organize the cottages each year and arrange a number of events for our guests. Big as small.
Hedebo Café is leased by Lone Munch, and Hedebo Supermarket has been runned by Lone and Keld Jensen for almost 30 years. We have long opening hours and a lot of guests. Also, those who just come pas by to get an ice cream or play a round on our beautiful 12-holes miniature golf course. Our guests can also choose to play tennis, shuffleboard or enjoy one of the 4 playgrounds.
Hedebo Waterland, checked every day by Bendt and Inger Christensen, is reserved for the paying guests of the campsite. Therefore, our guests may enjoy the heated waterpark with the 20 m high surfhill for free. The beach right outside the door is available to both guests and the area's residents who bathe and lick the sun when the weather is fine. Here you will also be fishing, surfing, trekking and go by cycle. Walk the promenade to cozy Sæby or take a hike in the nearby Underground hills with a rich wildlife and magnificent views. In the evening, maybe the adults grill while the kids play football on the lawn at the beach.
And then we are also proud to have Denmark's largest exhibition with classical motorcycles, which Bendt has gathered over a long life. The exhibition is open by appointment, free to visit and the reason that many enthusiasts and collectors of old motorcycles - like Denmark's Veteran Motocycle Club - will visit us.
We are a important part of the area near Sæby and Frederikshavn, and we are very proud of this, Eric Christensen.
