Great camping in Denmark

Since the late 50's, Hedebo Strand Camping has been situated at the edge of the beach by idyllic Sæby. Inger, Bendt and now their son, Eric Christensen, have runned the place since 1968.

After 10 years in the United States, where Inger and Bendt, owned and ran a gardencenter, they decided to return to their hometown in North Jutland. Here they took over Hedebo Strand Camping in 1968, which at that time had 125 sites. Quietly, the space was expanded with another 500 units, and new, modern service buildings were built. Amongst others the reception with a communal sittingroom on the first floor overlooking the sea.

In 1985, Eric as 23-year-old took over the main responsibility of running the campsite after his parents, who to this day still work here in their 80s.

I grew up with the campsite and the many long stayers here. I know them and they my parents and me, as we were in family, Eric Christensen.

Our lives are this campsite

Many employees are needed to maintain the 625 sites for caravans, campervans and tents here at Hedebo Strand Camping, where we have around 100,000 overnights each year. It requires a large and faithful organisation.

Since 2005, our four Polish employees, Dorota, Gosia, Frannek and Edward have cleaned our four service buildings with toilet, bath and kitchens twice a day. They also crop plants, cut many thousands square meters of grass, paint and renovate our buildings and 16 cabins. They also help our long stayers and tourists with different practical tasks.

The reception, which is open 13 hours a day in high season, is run by Eric and his wife Lene as well as Bettina and René our vice managers. They also organise the cottages each year and arrange a number of events for our guests. Big as small.

The facilities require time and work

Hedebo Strand Café is leased by Lisser, and our grocery store, Hedebo Strand Super, has from 2024 third generation of the family behind the counter. They have long opening hours and a lot of guests. Also, those who just drop by to get an ice cream or play a round on our beautiful 12-holes miniature golf course.

Pools for young and old

The poolarea is reserved for the paying guests of the campsite. In the heated pool area the big kids may enjoy the 20 m high surf hill  while the smaller ones have fun in the toddlers area. The beach right outside the door is available to both guests and the area's residents who bathe and enjoy the sun. Here you will also be able to fish, surf, trek and bike. Walk the promenade to cozy Sæby or take a hike in the nearby Underground Hills with a rich wildlife and magnificent views. In the evening, maybe the adults grill while the kids play football on the lawn on the beach.

Motorcycles at museum in Skagen

We are also proud of probably Denmark's biggest private collection of classical motorbikes, which Christensen Senior (1933-2023) collected for a whole lifetime. The collection is from 2023 to be seen on the museum, Maskinrummet, in Skagen.

We are an important part of the area near Sæby and Frederikshavn, and we are very proud of this, Eric Christensen.
